Flood Preparedness

For the latest Washington State disaster declaration information, visit wadisasternews.com

In January of 2009 the people of Pacific met a great challenge, as the US Army Corps of Engineers increased the flow from the Mud Mountain Dam, which resulted in a higher than anticipated water level downstream along the White River.

President Obama made a disaster declaration for those affected by the flood in King and Pierce Counties as well as other Washington counties. The deadline to register for assistance was March 31st, 2009.

King County residents may be eligible for assistance through the Housing Repair Program.

Utility Deferrals

The City Council approved deferral of utility charges for December 2008, January, February and March 2009 for owners of properties that were impacted by the January 2009 flood event. Owners must complete a deferral request form available at the Finance Department in City Hall.

The deferral process does not apply for amounts owed before December 2008 or for April services and thereafter. All deferred amounts need to be paid in full by October 29, 2009. Application must be made by owners, not tenants, and properties must be certified by the Building Official as flood damaged.
